A Typical Day

Every day is a little different — but always full of warmth, exploration, and fun

No two days are exactly alike at Madele Childminding — we follow the children's interests, the weather, and the season to shape each day. But there is always a reassuring rhythm that helps children feel settled, secure, and excited about what comes next.

Welcome & Settling In

Parents drop off and we take a moment to settle in together — catching up on how the morning has been, any news from home, and making sure every child feels safe and happy to start their day. On school days, we may head out for the school run first, which the little ones often love joining in with.

Free Play & Activities

Once settled, the morning opens up into a rich mix of child-led play and planned activities. We follow each child's interests and energy — some mornings are full of creative bustle, others are quieter and more exploratory.

  • Garden free play & outdoor exploration
  • Painting & colouring
  • Beading & fine motor crafts
  • Play dough & sensory play
  • Sandpit
  • Arts & crafts projects
  • Story time & picture books

Morning Snack

A healthy snack break to refuel and recharge. We use this time to practise table manners, chat about our morning, and get ready for our outing.

Out & About

We love outdoor activities — and Edinburgh has so much to offer! Weather permitting, we head out every morning. We believe fresh air and real-world experiences are some of the very best learning opportunities. On holiday days we might enjoy a movie morning at home instead.

  • Local playground (most days)
  • Book Bug & Rhyme Time — Mondays at Craigmillar or Danderhall Library
  • Soft play sessions
  • Dynamic Earth
  • National Museum of Scotland
  • Glasgow Science Centre
  • Clubs & community activities
  • Movie morning (holiday days)

Lunch at Home

Back home, we all wash our hands together and use the toilet before sitting down for a relaxed, sociable lunch. Mealtimes are an important part of the day — building good habits, conversation, and a sense of routine that children thrive on.

Walk & Nap Time

After lunch we head out for a gentle walk — the fresh air and movement help little ones wind down naturally and settle into their nap. Rest is an essential part of every young child's day, supporting their growth, mood, and learning.

Afternoon Snack & School Pickup

After waking, children enjoy an afternoon snack before we head out for the school run (on applicable days). The older children love being reunited with school friends, and the younger ones enjoy the walk and the excitement of the school gates.

Afternoon Adventures

The afternoon is another chance for exploration and relaxation. We might head to a playground, take a trip to the beach, enjoy free play in the garden, or curl up with a story. When the sun is shining, we love packing a picnic and heading somewhere truly special.
